5CrMnMo Mould Steel Bar

 

5CrMnMo is a mold steel developed by adding three elements of Cr, Mn and Mo on the basis of medium carbon steel. It can also be regarded as the formation of replacing Ni element in 5CrNiMo steel with Mn element. The steel is a hot work die steel. Except for the hardenability and heat fatigue resistance, 5CrMnMo steel has similar properties to 5CrNiMo steel, but the hardenability is slightly worse. This steel is suitable for production and requires high strength and high resistance. Various types of forging dies with abrasive properties. When higher toughness is required, electroslag remelting steel can be used. The carbon content of 5CrMnMo steel is maintained at 0.40%~0.60%, which can obtain higher strength and heat-resistant fatigue strength, and a certain Hardness and wear resistance, good toughness steel and thermal conductivity.

 

The addition of Cr, Mn, and Mo into 5CrMnMo is mainly to improve the hardenability of steel, especially when they work together, the hardenability is greatly improved. Cr, Mn, Mo elements can be dissolved in ferrite for solid solution strengthening, and can be dissolved in Fe3C to form (Fe, Cr, Mo) 3C to improve its hardness and improve the wear resistance of steel. The combination of Cr, Mn, and Mo elements significantly improves the tempering stability of steel. Mo element can reduce temper brittleness and refine grains.

 

As the Ni element significantly improves the hardenability, toughness and heat fatigue resistance of steel, compared with 5CrNiMo steel, although the strength of 5CrMnMo steel does not decrease, the toughness and plasticity at room temperature and higher temperature are reduced a lot, and hardenability Resistance and thermal fatigue resistance are also slightly lower. In addition, adding Mn and Mo elements to 5CrMnMo steel makes the steel slightly more sensitive to overheating. In addition, the presence of Cr element in steel gives the steel a certain degree of oxidation and corrosion resistance.
