60S20 Free Cutting Steel Bar

60S20 is DIN 1.0728 standard free cutting steel. It is a free-cutting steel able to support dynamic stresses and exhibiting a high strength, even without hardening, and an excellent aptitude for machining by material removal, which is intended for making machine elements subjected to great stresses.

The free cutting steel is mainly used for making instruments, watch parts, automobiles, machine tools, and other various machines with less stress and strict requirements on size and roughness; strict requirements on dimensional accuracy and roughness, and relatively strict requirements on mechanical properties. Lower standard parts such as gears, shafts, bolts, valves, bushings, pins, fittings, spring seat cushions and machine screws, plastic molding tools, surgical and dental surgical tools.

The quality of free-cutting steel represents the degree of difficulty in machining the material. Because the cutting process of the material is relatively complex, it is difficult to express the free-cutting ability with a single parameter. In general, the machinability of steel is comprehensively measured by the tool life, the size of the cutting force, the roughness of the machining surface, the cutting heat, and the ease of chip removal.
